Overview

Subtitle: Embracing the Presence of God, the Fear of God, and the Call to Be Present

Intro: Many people want God to use them, but they are never in position. God's presence changes you. The fear of God positions you. And being present allows God to use you. God is always moving. The question is: Will He find you available when He wants to move through you?

1

I. You Cannot Carry His Presence Without the Fear of God

The fear of God is not terror. It is reverence, awareness, and honor for His holiness.

Where there is no fear of God:

  • compromise grows
  • excuses grow
  • casual Christianity grows

Where the fear of God exists:

  • purity rises
  • obedience rises
  • sensitivity rises

Scripture

"Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment."

— Proverbs 9:10 (NLT)

"8 In the same way, deacons must be well respected and have integrity. They must not be heavy drinkers or dishonest with money. 9 They must be committed to the mystery of the faith now revealed and must live with a clear conscience. 10 Before they are appointed as deacons, let them be closely examined. If they pass the test, then let them serve as deacons."

— 1 Timothy 3:8-10 (NLT)

"2 So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, “We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. 3 And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility. 4 Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word.” 5 Everyone liked this idea, and they chose the following: Stephen (a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit), Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas of Antioch (an earlier convert to the Jewish faith). 6 These seven were presented to the apostles, who prayed for them as they laid their hands on them."

— Acts 6:2-6 (NLT)

II. God Uses People Who Are Present

You cannot be used where you refuse to show up. Not just physically — spiritually, emotionally, and mentally.

Jesus noticed what everyone else ignored:

  • blind Bartimaeus
  • the woman with the issue of blood
  • Zacchaeus
  • the children

He was present enough to notice the hurting.

3

III. Ministry Is Often Hidden in Ordinary Moments

Many people are waiting for a platform while ignoring divine interruptions.

Ministry often looks like:

  • praying for one hurting person
  • serving faithfully
  • helping behind the scenes
  • carrying burdens

God watches how we handle small moments.

Scripture

"“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities."

— Luke 16:10 (NLT)

IV. God Doesn't Need You — But He Wants to Use You

If you refuse, God can use someone else.

Powerful Thought: "Your absence may be someone else's delay."

Scripture

"13 Mordecai sent this reply to Esther: “Don’t think for a moment that because you’re in the palace you will escape when all other Jews are killed. 14 If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?”"

— Esther 4:13-14 (NLT)

V. Being Present Positions You for Divine Moments

  • Moses was present at the burning bush.
  • David was present in the field.
  • Elisha was present when Elijah's mantle fell.
  • The disciples were present in the upper room.

You keep asking God for purpose while avoiding position.

6

VI. The Presence of God Should Produce a Higher Standard

When God's presence truly rests somewhere, standards rise naturally. Not religion. Reverence.

Acts 5 — Ananias and Sapphira: The fear of God returned to the church.

Modern culture wants:

  • gifting without character
  • influence without holiness
  • platform without process

But God is restoring reverence.

Scripture

"1 But there was a certain man named Ananias who, with his wife, Sapphira, sold some property. 2 He brought part of the money to the apostles, claiming it was the full amount. With his wife’s consent, he kept the rest. 3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself. 4 The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren’t lying to us but to God!” 5 As soon as Ananias heard these words, he fell to the floor and died. Everyone who heard about it was terrified. 6 Then some young men got up, wrapped him in a sheet, and took him out and buried him. 7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 Peter asked her, “Was this the price you and your husband received for your land?” “Yes,” she replied, “that was the price.” 9 And Peter said, “How could the two of you even think of conspiring to test the Spirit of the Lord like this? The young men who buried your husband are just outside the door, and they will carry you out, too.” 10 Instantly, she fell to the floor and died. When the young men came in and saw that she was dead, they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 Great fear gripped the entire church and everyone else who heard what had happened."

— Acts 5:1-11 (NLT)

VII. Practical Application

Ask yourself:

  • Am I spiritually available?
  • Am I dependable?
  • Am I sensitive to the Holy Spirit?
  • Am I present enough for God to interrupt me?
  • Am I living in the fear of God?

Being present is a ministry. Availability is often the doorway to anointing.

"The Kingdom is not built merely by talented people. It is built by available people who fear God enough to obey Him when nobody is watching."

8

Closing

  • Get back to reverence.
  • Get back to availability.
  • Get back to holiness.
  • Become present in His presence again.

Scripture

"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."

— Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV)
